The Footing Tube
Features
Footing and tube incorporated in single pour for added stability and strength.
Lightweight, durable construction. The plastic form helps eliminate negative effects of ground water. Easy to use, labour saving installation. Efficient coordination of concrete and excavation. No need to strip form or wait to backfill. Compaction of backfill material can be done prior to pouring of concrete. Stackable design for easier storage & shipping, manufactured from recycled plastic. Works in frost prone areas to 5ft. depths. Smooth plastic form creates an added slip joint. Labelled sizing rings make backfill requirements easier to inspect and are used as a guide for sizing. The form will not break down under wet conditions. Safety Top keeps pets, rocks, rain, children, etc. from falling into tube prior to pouring concrete.
Samples of use: house, storage, deck.
Formula to calculate loads of buildings.
REPAIR OF THE EXISTED CONCRETE PIER WITH WRAPPED FOOTING TUBE
The existed concrete pier 4" deep showing below was moving up each winter because of its rough structure. The wet dirt after being frozen created one solid mass with the pier. Due to gigantic force of enlarged frozen wet ground, the pier moved up with the entire deck. It does not matter how deep the post sits underground; the side forces will easily move it up. Traditional round cardboard tube might not help, but conical plastic tube with smooth slip surface and with the additional solid foundational base helps to keep post where it is forever! Repairs like that are difficult to do but possible, as shown on the photos.
Dig the cave around the existed pier. That's a lot of manual labor. Fill the hole around the tube with the dirt or sand. Mix concrete with more water to make it more liquid. Pour concrete into the opening not smaller than inch and a half. Use the concrete vibrator from time to time to let concrete wrap the pier from the opposite side. Cut off the tube from top to the bottom and wrap it around an old pier. Connect the ends at 5-6 points with any metal pieces and screws. Make sure you have some opening at the top of the new tube for pouring concrete. Install the tube base (cut off it first for wrapping), connect the ends with any metal connectors, pour concrete and inslall reinforced melal rebars to connect permanently the base with the future new pier. Use concrete vibrator again to make sure that the concrete settled from all sides of the old post. Add more concrete if needed. Once finished with concrete work, clean the plastic footing tube from concrete leftovers.
Fill the rest of the hole with dirt. You may fill the entire cave with top soil and plant a tree - an apple, as shown at the photo - an attractive addition to your deck. The best thing about planting this tree: you don't need to dig a special hole for it!
